TBSG – Prologue

January 19, 2011

Hello everyone.

The Santa Catarina State Championship started last weekend, but since I figured it out that many of you might never have the chance to check out these games (and also it might not be that important to you), I decided that I will not post the game analisys of this Championship here, at the HTS.

If you are interested in the game analisys, check it out the twin version of this blog – http://www.hattrickfutebol.wordpress – that, by the way, it is in portuguese.

So, until the MLS Season get started, I decided to launch here, at the HTS, a guide that I wanted to write for a couple of months now. The main purpose of this guide is to explain, in an easy and simply way, how the soccer structure works out down here in Brazil.

Many of you might understand how the first division work, what is the biggest clubs and the most famous players, but my mission is to get a little deeper. It won’t be a complete source of information about soccer in Brazil (which would be huge and I don’t intend to write this yet), but I hope that after you read this guide, you can tell to you friends how soccer work in Brazil or brag in a bar, alongside your supporter group, that they don’t know nothing about soccer outside North America, or something like that!

I don’t know if you will do this, but I hope that guide helps you to understand how things are down here and how, somehow, we produced (and keep producing) a bunch of skilled players that got five World Cups in our history. Yes, you read somehow.

So, I present to you The Brazilian Soccer Guide (TBSG) Things that you might want to know about soccer in Brazil but never wasted time to search in Google or Wikipedia (or TBFG – The Brazilian Football Guide, for you that is English, Irish, Scottish, Australian, New Zealander, South African or from another english speaking country. Leave your comment, I will be happy to read your opinions too).

The guide will be divided in six chapters, that might have one or more parts (since I didn’t finish all the articles yet and I have no idea If will have to brake into many parts because its too big). Check it out the chapters:

The Brazilian Soccer Guide (TBSG):

Chapter 1 – The State Championships: Brazil seems to be the only country in the world that has professional state championships and you will understand why;

Chapter 2 – “Série A” and “Série B”: The second chapter will bring a little bit about how the first divisions in Brazil get where they are now and the system that they use;

Chapter 3 – “Série C” and “Série D”: If the first divisions are well know by many people, the lower divisions might get a little trick for you and here I will explain that;

Chapter 4 – Another Tournaments: Brazil has also a Cup, called Copa do Brazil, but thats not the only cup tournament that exist here in this huge country;

Chapter 5 – The “Categorias de Base”: or Academy System, how you call it. The first chapter that is not essential to you to understand the system (in terms of promotion, relegation, berths for Copa Libertadores and etc), but good to know how our soccer players become pro;

Chapter 6 – Amateur Soccer: This final chapter is also not really required to understand the system, but important to compare from what do you have in your country.

That is it. I hope to get the guide done until the beginning of the MLS season or maximum when “Série A” starts, late in April. In the end of the Guide, I will put a page in the top of the blog (right next to the Hat Trick, About the author) so you can check the posts without going through all the posts.

I will try to provide to you, also, a guide of the 2011 Championship (with all the teams, best players), if you want to start to following now, and maybe some infographic with the locations of the teams and another information.

I hope you like some of the articles, chapters or hopefully the whole guide. I am wainting for your comments and also english corrections (feel free to do that, please).

Cheers!
